Art and Formula 1® come together to design the trophy for the Gran Premio de España 2026
The FORMULA 1 TAG Heuer Gran Premio de España 2026 is launching an initiative that brings together art and sport through an artistic competition to design the trophy for its first edition, which will be held in Madrid from 11 to 13 September 2026.
The initiative, promoted by IFEMA MADRID in collaboration with ARCOmadrid, connects the world of Formula 1® with contemporary art through Spain’s leading International Contemporary Art Fair. The competition is open to national and international artists represented by galleries participating in ARCOmadrid 2026, which will be responsible for submitting entries and inviting their artists to take part. Each gallery may nominate up to two artists, and registration will be carried out exclusively through the galleries themselves.
Selection process and jury
The selection process will take place in two stages. In the first phase, which will close in mid-January, the submitted proposals will be assessed and a shortlist of 20 finalist artists will be selected.
These finalists will move on to a second phase, during which they will be required to further develop their trophy proposal, including the artistic concept, technical definition, materials, scale model and production feasibility.
The jury will be composed of five members, primarily from the field of contemporary art, alongside representatives linked to the Formula 1® ecosystem, ensuring a balance between artistic creativity, cultural identity and the requirements of a global sporting event. The final decision will be subject to approval by Formula One Management.
A trophy with its own identity
The trophy design must reflect values such as sophistication, innovation, sustainability, quality and Madrid’s cultural tradition, while also respecting the identity and principles of Formula 1® and MADRING.
The winning artist will be responsible for producing the official trophies — winner, constructor, second and third place — within the maximum budget established by the organisation.
Announcement of the winner
The winner of the competition will be announced on 26 February, during a ceremony held within the framework of ARCOmadrid, further strengthening the link between the Gran Premio de España and one of the leading international showcases for contemporary art.
In addition to the symbolic recognition of signing the trophy for the first Gran Premio de España de Formula 1® in Madrid, the winning artist will receive a financial award, as will the 20 selected finalists.
Through this initiative, the FORMULA 1 TAG Heuer Gran Premio de España 2026 reinforces its commitment to going beyond on-track activity and to making every element of the event an expression of Madrid’s identity and culture.
