Total eclipse at La Monumental, MADRING’s most iconic corner
La Monumental, the banked corner set to become the defining icon of the FORMULA 1 TAG HEUER SPANISH GRAND PRIX, became one of Madrid’s most remarkable viewing points on 12 August to witness the solar eclipse, exactly one month before the Grand Prix gets under way.
Located in the northern section of the circuit, within the Valdebebas development, Turn 12 sat directly beneath the path of totality as it crossed the Community of Madrid, making it an exceptional vantage point from which to observe the phenomenon. While most of the city experienced a highly significant partial eclipse, this area of the circuit was treated to a total solar eclipse, a rare event that transformed MADRING into a truly unique setting.
A first spectacle at La Monumental, one month before the Grand Prix
With its imposing grandstand and the Madrid skyline providing a dramatic backdrop, La Monumental staged its first major spectacle exactly one month before the Spanish Grand Prix begins: the meeting of one of nature’s greatest phenomena and Formula 1’s most emblematic corner.
At 547 metres in length, with 24% banking and capacity for more than 50,000 spectators, La Monumental has already established itself as the symbol of the new Spanish Grand Prix before the cars have even turned a wheel on its asphalt, ahead of the race weekend on 11-13 September.
