IFEMA MADRID and Fundación Banco de Alimentos to give Spanish Grand Prix surplus a second life
The initiative will enable surplus food fit for consumption generated during the FORMULA 1 TAG HEUER GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA to be distributed to social welfare organisations.
IFEMA MADRID and the Fundación Banco de Alimentos de Madrid have signed a collaboration agreement to collect and distribute surplus food fit for consumption that may be generated during the FORMULA 1 TAG HEUER GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA, which will take place from 11 to 13 September 2026. The initiative will allow participating catering and hospitality companies to voluntarily donate unused food in order to help reduce food waste and support people in vulnerable situations across the Community of Madrid.
The initiative aims to prevent food in good condition from being discarded and facilitate its delivery to social welfare organisations supporting people in vulnerable circumstances. To achieve this, catering and hospitality companies operating during the event will be able to join the programme voluntarily and donate products that have not been consumed.
All donations must comply with the requirements relating to storage, labelling, traceability, food safety and shelf life, in accordance with Law 1/2025 on the Prevention of Food Loss and Waste.
The Fundación Banco de Alimentos de Madrid will be responsible for managing the receipt, sorting, transport and distribution of the food among accredited social welfare organisations, ensuring that food safety standards and full traceability are maintained at all times.
For its part, IFEMA MADRID will promote the initiative among participating companies, provide collection points, and coordinate the operational aspects required for the programme alongside the Foundation. Through this agreement, both organisations further strengthen their commitment to sustainability, the circular economy, and the responsible use of food resources at major events.
In 2025, the Fundación Banco de Alimentos de Madrid supported an annual average of 105,552 people through 536 charitable organisations across the Community of Madrid, a contribution that will be further strengthened by collaborative initiatives such as the one being launched for the Spanish Grand Prix.
