MADRING and Lagain Group make progress on organic waste management for the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix

MADRING and Lagain Group have reached a partnership agreement to integrate solutions for the management of organic waste during the FORMULA 1 TAG HEUER GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA 2026, which will take place in Madrid from 11 to 13 September. The agreement will make it possible to incorporate into the event's operations a range of solutions developed by the company to facilitate the separation, treatment and monitoring of certain fractions of organic waste generated during the Grand Prix.

Among the measures planned is the deployment of LFC biodigesters, units designed to treat food waste on site through an aerobic digestion process. By means of microorganisms that act in the presence of oxygen, the organic matter is broken down and transformed into a liquid effluent that is discharged into the drainage system in accordance with the applicable conditions. The process, which is continuous, reduces the time waste remains in stored solid form and, in addition, records the amount of material introduced and processed, providing operational information based on real data obtained during the event.

The initiative will be complemented by the use of compostable bags to support the collection and separation at source of the organic fraction at the points defined within the event's operations. This solution will be integrated into the Grand Prix's overall waste management model, complementing other initiatives promoted by MADRING to make use of surplus food that is still fit for consumption. The aim is to act at different stages of food and waste management: encouraging its use wherever possible, facilitating the separation of organic matter, and applying specific solutions for its treatment when it can no longer be destined for consumption.

With this alliance, MADRING reaffirms its commitment to a more efficient and responsible event model just under a month before its debut. The circuit is thus finalising preparations for Madrid to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix once again 45 years on, with a hybrid 5.4-kilometre, 22-turn layout integrated into the city and set to become one of the major dates on the international calendar.
