The Ferrari driver overtook Antonelli at the start and capitalised on the late-race incidents to secure his first victory since Austin 2024.

Charles Leclerc returned to the top step of the podium this Sunday at Silverstone after winning a race he controlled from the very first corner. The Monegasque driver overtook pole-sitter Kimi Antonelli at the start and led for much of the race to secure his first victory of the season and end a 624-day winless streak, which dated back to Austin 2024.

The turning point of the race came with eleven laps to go, when Antonelli – who had seemed the only driver capable of challenging Leclerc for the win – suffered a technical problem with his Mercedes that forced him to pit several times and left him with no chance of scoring points.

The race ended behind the safety car, brought out by Max Verstappen’s crash, which worked in George Russell’s favour; he crossed the line in second place as he was the only driver not to pit for a tyre change whilst the race was under the safety car. Lewis Hamilton completed the podium, securing Ferrari’s best result of the season. Antonelli’s failure to score points allowed the two British drivers to close the gap in the overall standings, with George now just 25 points off the lead and Lewis 32 points behind.

As for the Spanish drivers, neither managed to score points, with Carlos Sainz finishing in twelfth place and Fernando Alonso in eighteenth.
