Madrid is set to welcome Formula 1 in style, as Carlos Sainz takes to the streets in the Williams FW45 for a thrilling live demo on part of the future MADRING circuit – the upcoming home of the Spanish Grand Prix from 2026. The event will take place on Saturday 7 June at 7:00 pm, along a nearly one-kilometre route that will run through Ribera del Sena street and part of Avenida del Partenón, ending at the South entrance of the convention and exhibition centre IFEMA MADRID.
Sainz will be joined by promising Catalan driver Pepe Martí, a member of the Red Bull Junior Team currently competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Spanish team Campos Racing, and Mari Boya, also of Campos Racing, who races in the Formula 3 category. All three drivers will showcase their skills at the wheel of their respective single-seaters, offering fans the thrill of Formula 1 free of charge in what will be MADRING’s first ‘tardeo’, the popular Spanish afternoon, featuring a fan zone, food trucks, merchandise stalls and other surprises.
As the event will partially take place on public roads, resulting in road closures and severely restricted access to the IFEMA MADRID car park, attendees are strongly encouraged to use public transport.
Carlos Sainz, driver for Atlassian Williams Racing and ambassador for the Spanish GP in Madrid, expressed his excitement at sharing his passion for motorsport with the people of his hometown and its visitors: “Madrid is obviously my hometown. I grew up here and started racing go karts in this city. To have the chance to drive an F1 car in my own backyard is a dream come true for me and an incredible opportunity for Madrid to show everyone our potential and willingness to become the best circuit and the finest event on the entire F1 calendar! This roadshow is just the first step in bringing Formula 1 closer to everyone and showcasing the unique character MADRING’s layout will offer.”
“This event is a clear sign of the commitment of Madrid with F1 and a unique opportunity for fans to experience its excitement first-hand. Having Carlos Sainz – one of the most respected and admired drivers in the world – as ambassador for the Spanish Grand Prix is a tremendous honor. We are thrilled to work with the driver and Atlassina Williams Racing to launch our roadshow and kick-start the next chapter of our GP”, added Luis García Abad, Formula 1 Director of IFEMA MADRID.
About MADRING
Currently under construction, the MADRING circuit will host the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix from 2026 to 2035, bringing the pinnacle of motorsport back to Madrid for the first time in 45 years. The 5.4-kilometre track, featuring 22 corners, has been designed to blend ultra-fast urban sections with permanent, technically demanding stretches – including the 'Monumental' corner, with a 24% banking and 550 metres in length. A slower section, flanked by walls, will pose a major challenge for drivers. MADRING will be the first circuit in a major European capital and is set to become a landmark, thanks to its strategic location – just five minutes from the airport and in the heart of the city – and a layout that’s certain to generate excitement and discussion across the world of motorsport.
